Powder Metal technology is a unique manufacturing
process which has been growing steadily & finding new
applications over the last 50 years. Starting with
blending of various types of metal powders, the next
step is to compact the blended metal powder into various
shapes & sizes using specifically designed hydraulic &
mechanical presses. The compacted parts (green components)
are subsequently passed through a sintering furnace
where the temperature & atmosphere are carefully controlled in order to maintain precise composition,
prevent oxidation & in some cases, decarburization.
During this process, the powder particles are 'welded'
by means of an atomic diffusion process, producing the
final material properties.
After the sintering process, a variety of secondary
operations are performed on these parts which include
the
following:
This process allows the components to achieve tighter
dimensional tolerances & increased material strength.
This process is performed on bearings imparting a
self lubricating property.
-
Conventional Machining
-
Burr Removal
-
Steam Treatment
