In less than three
decades, the Adamjee Group ran over thirty industries and
enterprises. With
the creation of Bangladesh in 1971, the group lost
Adamjee Jute Mills,
the largest Jute Mill of its kind in the world. A host of
other businesses
were also taken over by the Government of Bangladesh including
Sugar, Tea,
Textiles, and Cooking Oil. Later,Muslim Commercial Bank and
Adamjee Life
Insurance were both nationalized by the Government of Pakistan
in 1974.
Despite all these
set backs, the ideas of Sir Adamjee Haji Dawood still
continue to be
followed by the family which has split up into five
groups and
diversified its business into various sectors. Some of the
enterprises of the
Hanif Adamjee Group of companies are:
1. Adamjee
Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd.
2. Adamjee Engineering (Pvt.) Ltd.
3. Adamjee
Pharmaceuticals (Pvt.) Ltd.
4. Chempro
Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd.
5. Coastal Enterprises (Pvt.) Ltd.
Mr. Hanif Adamjee
holds the position of the Chairman of all the above companies.
